Inverted Paradox is a 14 track album featuring HR (of Bad Brains), songstress/model/actress Jez Blak (alter ego: Earth Godessa), the salty, magruff gravel-voiced Junior Demus, Snuupi (great writer courtesy of Kesta Records), Li-On (NYC underground hiphop mic stalker), Roguish Armament (alternative hardcore hiphop pioneers), the great Bobby Culture, Merciless (one of dancehall's best) and Long Island's punk krew Bumfounded.
AS THEY WERE: After the collapse of the nuclear family and the end of free love as we knew it, the Armament went underground to wage war against the forces of evil, but found themselves entranced in a life and death struggle to survive in the melting of Bogeyville. Under the fearless leadership of Cornelious Curley Maple Wood, alias C.C.M.W., also known as Gabriel Pace, or Wood, the Armament started its request for new recruits and found the way to the doorstep of F.W.D. (Fiends With Dreams), the home of the ancient one, aka Gravel Throat, also known as Ill Chuck or Daniel Ilchuck, who there with his faithful companion, Chipperooonee, aka Chiplove, Chipped, also known as Charles Wolfson, formed the full metal cipher know as Roguish Armament.
…And from the outer limits of Bogeyville emerge a new species of rhymers. With soul addicting powerful vibes and stoopid phat production, comes 3 tons of tongue in a forest of MC’s, planting deep roots in the funk-laden earth for the harvest. On the real, this is butter for your toast from the coast of the East River, kickin’ melodies for the mellow G’s and moshers.
At any given time in the Muzik Industry, there are a few unsigned artists or bands that are as good as, if not better than top signed artists. Regarding Roguish Armament, the feisty L.E.S krew was in the same alternative hiphop class as the Beastie Boys and Cypress Hill but A&R reps didn’t have the ears or vision to sign Roguish. While the former and later krews were having great success with major labels support (“the machine if you may”), Roguish was effin’ sh!t up D.I.Y-style on the underground scene. Roguish was spittin’ timeless lyrics and creating sicc (sick) beats that were light-years ahead. The amazing thing is, despite a few mentions of current events (River Phoenix, Joey Buttafuoco, etc.,) in the early 1990s -- 20 years later in 2012, the material remains fresh – not dated.
Live Performances: Roguish Armament’s live performances were simply raucous and obnoxious in-ur-face controlled mayhem. While Beastie Boys with their prankster brand and Cypress Hill with their stoner brand were kicking ass – so was Roguish Armament with their hardcore brand. (Man Insane Clown Posse’s fav krew was Roguish Armament.) Roguish Armament consistently built their core audience via small and big events in dives and premier venues...
…After blowing-up Florida and Canada in the Summer of ’93, on tour with Bad Brains – Roguish Armament then dazzled the masses opening the main stage at Woodstock ’94, Upstate New York. The krew went on to play the Canadian Snowboarding Championship, ’94, plus touring with the original Bad Brains again in 1995. The Rogues also played the Spring Break “Peace & Luv Concert” in Nassau Bahamas, in 1997. And in there somewhere, Roguish Armament played a few European gigs with Dog Eat Dog. The Rogues were seasoned performers, who left punk, hiphop, and alternative rock audiences remembering the boyz from the L.E.S. Even mainstream was taking notice. Sound bites even went out via Dan Rather and the CBS Evening News. But like a ton of bands that start striding upwards, it seems the propensity is to break up. Roguish Armament split in the later part of the 1990s. What were the reason/reasons...? But one thing is for certain – Roguish Armament made an impact on early alternative hiphop. Roguish Armament was on deck before the horrorcore period of hiphop with the likes of Gravediggaz and Masta Ace, Inc., chopping sh!t up. Oh yeah… Roguish Armament (“the new species of rhymers") was on the scene before Cypress Hill.

Gaberiel Pace: Wanted for turnstile jumping in all “52” States; know to smoke a spliff in a single bound; was born a poor black child in a Brooklyn project. Living on the run with his mother, a terrorist from the Weather Underground for the better part of 22 years, has forged this young rogue into a charismatic cunning leader who trusts no one but the followers of the Armament, and the truly orthodox who versed in the ways of ecnedac.
Daniel Ilchuck -- aka Ancient One, Rumpiltinskinz, Ill, Gravel Throat: A rogue from birth, having returned from his tour of duty in Asia, was set upon by effects of Agent Orange, whereby he disappeared into the projects of the Lower East Side (LES) of Manhattan to escape the heroin inducted psychosis, only to emerge as a true Soldier of Fortune. As an agent for the Special Forces, Ill Chuck is prohibited from disclosing his activities. Suffice it to say, he is still wanted for truancy from his high school years.
Charles Wolfson: aka Chipperroonee, Chiplove, Chipped, is wanted for fraud at the Duncan Donuts on Northern Blvd. Wolfson was born in the projects of the Lower East Side and raised in the ghetto of Queens. Ordained the scholar and spiritual advisor to the Armament Scrolls, Chipped is a fine example of what Daytop, Phoenix House, and Samaritan Village can accomplish. A graduate student of all three Institutions, he is a former Professor of Philosophy at Harvard University where he pa’ked his ca’ in Hava’d Ya’d.
To the left is Morgan Harris, core member of the Fiends With Dreams. Morgan produced, shot and edited the "Maintain" video. Very talented bro. As were all the Fiends With Dreams. Morgan now own a phat recording studio in Atlanta.
The "Roguish Armament" title was licensed by D.I.A Records through Daniel Ilchuck about 2000. The CD was reedited (cutting the hidden track) and re-mastered 13 tracks for a more dynamic and thicker sound. The original cover (to the left) was also re-worked. D.I.A's cover is to the right slightly above. So there are two flavors of Roguish Armament’s debut self-titled CD of the same name. Kool!! Ill link up!!
ROGUISH ARMAMENT -- "MAINTAIN" video. Roguish Armament with Ill, Chipperoonee and G-Pace was the tuffest hardcore alternative hiphop krew bar none! Nuff love to Beastie Boys and Cypress Hill but they did not come close. Roguish Armament was scary!!
