"Keeper Of The Faith" is a 100% roots-conscious Reggae album in the works... Seems it will take a long while to find the right songs by worthy artists for this project...

Sleepy Wonder piece in Fantra Zine #1, 1993-94 or so. BTW. Tennyson "Jimmy" Smith who did illustration on page died a while back. Great visual artist in the same circle as Andy Worhol, Keith Haring, Jean-Michel Basquiat and Shep Fairey. Jimmy illsustrated Bob Marley album covers, Marvel Comic books, etc. Great company! Sleepy Wonder live in Japan with Raff (formerly of NYC based reggae band Monyaka) in early '90's. '

Sleepy Wonder vintage piece from early '90's.

Notes below is script of Sleepy Wonder's Fantra Zine article above that served as his biography in 1992. Back then efforts were made to eradicate the cookie stamper-type extremely artist friendly biographies.

SLEEPY WONDER is the most dangerous dancehall deejay any where in the world. This underrated mic stalker can wreck any other dancehall deejay at any give place or time. NO APOLOGIES!!!!

May 13, 1992, in NYC.SLEEPY WONDER was born in Kingston, Jamaica, March 15, 1959. Sleepy grew up in Jones Town, a harsh ghetto community that offers little or no future to its youths. Although exposed to daily rituals (police brutality, violence, and hungry babies crying) in the ghetto, Sleepy excelled in his school.

Defying his family's advice to concentrate on school, Sleepy developed a genuine interest in dancehall reggae. At 12 years old Sleepy started deejaying at local talent shows. By 1982 Sleepy's popularity was steadily growing throughout Jamaica. The local dancehalls were a new permanent fixture in Sleepy's life.

In 1984, Sleepy and his family migrated to Brooklyn, New York. Sleepy lost little time in joining the ranks of Bo Bo General and Trevor Sparks (R.I.P), performing on sound systems such as Sound One, Third World, Minimart and Terrorist High Power. The next four years were spent developing his deejay style, Sleepy's rapid-fire rap is the results of inner-city battles with rival sound systems.

SLEEPY WONDER's professional career commenced in 1988. Sleepy recorded his first single "88 Champion" for Park Heights Records. This debut single caught the attention of producers and promoters in Brooklyn. The Wonderman then recorded a barrage of singles that gained him international recognition.

SLEEPY WONDER has performed internationally. Sleepy's resume's boasts, Japan, Jamaican, Trinidad, Barbados, Bermuda, Virgin Island and the United States. SLEEPY has definitely gained the respect of his dancehall deejays and rap peers. SLEEPY WONDER will shine.
